Greece National OT News

News from Greece, 2019

This year has been a transitional one for our national association “Panhellenic Association of Ergotherapists”, since it became a Public Entity, replacing the previously known association (“Hellenic Association of Ergotherapists”). For now, the Association has a temporary executive committee, whose sole task is first, to gather and inform all Occupational Therapists of the country about its actions, and secondly, to organize the association’s first elections. The official Regulation of Operations document as part of Legislation, is still pending from the Ministry of Health. When the specific Legislation will be officially published, the first elections of the association can take place.

The Association’s Temporary Executive Board have successfully resolved issues such as:

–       the amount of compensation for Occupational Therapy (OT) services from the National Organization for the Provision of Healthcare Services (“ΕΟΠΥΥ” in Greek). The OT service compensation has been raised from 1,23 € to 15,00 € per OT session.

–       collaborated with other health professional associations and ensured that therapy compensations won’t be decreased by the National Organization for the Provision of Healthcare Services.

–       in the electronic prescription system of the National Organization for the Provision of Healthcare Services, OT prescription was limited to a few medical doctor specialities. Now all medical doctor specialities can prescribe electronically OT sessions.

The Panhellenic Association of Ergotherapists is located in Athens and in order to be in touch with its members outside the capital, organized several meetings with OTs in other major cities, such as Ioannina, Thessaloniki and Heraklion. Another meeting will follow in Patra.
