The EU-Safety 2025 Conference, held in Crete on 1–2 October, offered an important platform to highlight the growing contribution of occupational therapy to safety, prevention, and public health across Europe. COTEC was represented by Kiriaki Keramitou, President of the Greek Association, through a poster presentation and a plenary opening greeting, reinforcing its commitment to evidence-based approaches in fall prevention and community safety.
The conference brought together international experts and stakeholders from across the safety and prevention landscape, creating valuable opportunities for dialogue and collaboration. COTEC’s poster, focusing on the role of occupational therapists in fall prevention, attracted strong interest from participants and generated positive feedback on the profession’s unique, person-centred contribution. During the plenary session, the opening greeting introduced occupational therapy as a key partner in promoting participation, independence, and meaningful daily activities as core elements of injury prevention.

Beyond the conference programme, the event also provided wider public visibility. A short interview with a local television channel helped communicate the importance of fall prevention to the general public and highlighted occupational therapy as a vital public health resource.

Key messages emerging from the conference underlined the increasing European focus on interdisciplinary collaboration, community-based safety strategies, and fall prevention as priority areas. There was clear openness among stakeholders to stronger involvement of occupational therapists in cross-sector initiatives. For COTEC, the conference confirmed that continued representation at major European events is essential to raise awareness, strengthen networks, and advance Occupational Therapy’s role in shaping future safety and prevention policies
