The COTEC Executive Committee held its first interim meeting of 2026 in an online format on the 11th and 12th April 2026.
Over two days, the Executive Committee engaged in a series of strategic discussions focused on governance, organisational development, collaboration, and future opportunities for Occupational Therapy across Europe.
The meeting began with preparations for the upcoming General Assembly and Governance Day, ensuring that key governance processes remain aligned with COTEC’s Strategic Plan 2025–2028. Discussions also addressed the ongoing development of COTEC’s archive at the Wellcome Trust in London.
A significant part of the meeting was dedicated to an external evaluation process facilitated by Dominique Danau. This reflective session provided an opportunity to review COTEC’s current activities, achievements, and future priorities. The evaluation supported the Executive Committee in identifying strengths, opportunities for growth, and ways to maximise COTEC’s impact for Member Associations and the Occupational Therapy profession across Europe.
Looking ahead, the Executive Committee reviewed plans for COTEC’s 40th Anniversary celebrations and discussed potential venues for the 2027 General Assembly. Progress on the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Award was also reviewed, with next steps identified to support its further development and implementation.
The Executive Committee also met with Director of Operarions, Shawn Abela Tabone to explore ongoing and future collaborative opportunities and discussed the planning and scheduling of upcoming COTEC webinars. These webinars continue to provide accessible professional development opportunities and foster knowledge exchange among Occupational Therapy practitioners and stakeholders across Europe.
The second day focused on strengthening COTEC’s external engagement and organisational capacity. Updates were shared on COTEC’s representations within European networks and organisations, highlighting the continued importance of Occupational Therapy in European health, education, and policy discussions. The Executive Committee also reviewed progress on the development of the COTEC repository, which aims to improve access to resources and knowledge for Member Associations.
Further discussions centred on reviewing and updating the Action Plan, onboarding and engaging new Member Associations, and strengthening collaboration with partner organisations. The Committee explored opportunities to expand existing partnerships and develop new alliances that support COTEC’s strategic priorities and increase the visibility of Occupational Therapy across Europe.
In addition, contingency planning formed an important part of the agenda, ensuring that COTEC remains resilient, adaptable, and prepared for future opportunities and challenges.
The meeting concluded with an open discussion session that allowed the Executive Committee to reflect on emerging priorities and identify actions for the months ahead.
