Bid to host COTEC-ENOTHE Congress 2024*
(later to be called the 1st Occupational Therapy Europe Congress 2024)

We are pleased to invite you to bid to host the third joint COTEC-ENOTHE Congress in 2024. The Congress should be co-hosted by a COTEC Member Association and at least one ENOTHE Member educational institution in the same country.

The COTEC-ENOTHE Congress Committee has four members (Eva Denysiuk and Anu Söderström from COTEC Executive Committee; Ursula Gubler Thomann and Lisette Farias Vera from ENOTHE Board)

The Committee will review the bids and make a recommendation regarding the 2024 Congress host at both COTEC and ENOTHE General Assemblies in October 2019.

You can download the COTEC-ENOTHE Congress guidelines 2019 and the bid form which should be completed and submitted by August 1st, 2019. All bids with eventual attachments and supporting documents should be addressed to COTEC-ENOTHE Congress Committee at info@coteceurope.eu

Alzheimer Europe, Alzheimer Nederland are calling for abstracts for the upcoming 29th Alzheimer Europe Conference in The Hague, Netherlands.

Abstracts for oral and poster presentations in English are welcome in the following categories:

• Societal perspectives: Awareness and policy campaigns, (Inter)National dementia strategies, Inclusion of people with dementia, Connecting with minority groups, Early onset dementia, Legal and ethical issues, New housing concepts, Technology, Socio-economic aspects of dementia, Risk factors and prevention
• Care and services: Needs and experiences of people with dementia and their family caregivers, Training and education of care professionals, Memory clinics and centres, Post-diagnostic support, Psychosocial interventions, Acute and hospital care, Respite care, Volunteers and care in the community, Home and residential care, Palliative care approaches

The purpose of the grant is to facilitate a minimum of a one-week visit to an international laboratory or research group under the guidance of an identified international mentor. Each year, five (5) awards will be competitively granted; each award is sponsored by one of the sponsoring organizations (ISBM, SfHP, APS, SBM, or IBTN). The proposed visit will be based on aims to pursue a specific research project or a specific program development project in the areas of health research, clinical behavioral health, behavioral medicine, or health promotion. The research or program development project should be feasible within one year. If the project cannot be completed during the visit to the mentor’s country, a plan for distance collaboration should be well-articulated.

Occupational Therapy and Primary Care

This article is the first in a series of two articles about Occupational Therapy and Primary Care. This first article describes the health policy context in which primary health care should be strengthened. A definition of occupational therapy is given and the scope of the profession is explained. Based on a survey amongst the (experts of) member associations of COTEC, an overview is given of the main target groups and how occupational therapy is embedded and organized in different countries. In a position statement it is argued why occupational therapy can and should contribute to a comprehensive integrated primary care and challenges to strengthen the position of the profession are described.

Scoping Review: Occupational Therapy Interventions in Primary Care

This is the second article in a series of two about occupational therapy and primary care. The first article (see PH&RD….) described the position of the profession in primary care across Europe and the scope of the profession. In this article the broad scope of the profession is illustrated with various examples of occupational therapy interventions. The interventions are identified by means of a literature search. A questionnaire (the questionnaire is available by mailing the author) was sent out to experts across Europe which resulted in both relevant literature and evidence-based examples. The evidence level of these examples differs from expert opinion (5), case series (4), case–controlled studies (3), cohort studies (2) and randomized-control trial (1). The article ends with recommendations in four areas how to develop, establish or strengthen the profession in primary care.
